The rich and immense world of World of Warcraft Classic can be a little overwhelming for first-time players. There are so many options on where to begin, what character to choose, what class and profession, etc. Regardless of your character choices, here are a few tips and recommendations for any player that wants to level up quickly so they can get into the meatier parts of the game.

Rest in a City or Inn When Offline

After a long night of dungeon crawling or questing, it’s reasonable that you’ll need to log off WoW Classic and get some shut-eye. Before you turn off the computer, however, make sure you do the same for your character. In WoW Classic, you will benefit from an XP boost depending on how much rest your character gets while you’re offline.

You can’t just leave them anywhere, though. Be sure you return them to a major city or inn for the most boost while you’re away. You’ll know you’re getting these rest benefits if you see ZZZ in a circle under your health bar, where your current level usually shows up. Next time you log in, you’ll receive a temporary XP boost—you’ll get 5% for every 8 hours, with the highest boost you can obtain being 150% (or roughly ten days offline).

Don’t Try to Level In a Group

In the early levels of Wow Classic, it may be tempting to try and find safety in numbers by joining another player or group on their travels. While it may allow you to reach a little bit higher in difficulty, you can actually level faster by yourself.

When you’re part of a group, you will find that the XP is slightly lesser for you and more spread out for the group. On your own, you alone will reap all the benefits. It may be scary at first, just don’t venture too far out of the starting areas and be patient—if you try to pull too many enemies at once, you will become overwhelmed and find yourself in a death loop rather than progressing. Take them one by one at first and grind out that XP.

Quest and Repeat

As you’ll soon find, WoW Classic is packed with tons of quests that range from walking a few feet down a road, to fighting your way through hours of enemies in a sprawling dungeon. If you’re looking to level quickly, you’ll want to be constantly questing.

Don’t be picky when accepting quests either—grab as many as you can, wherever you are. Be smart and optimize your time—always look for multiple quest objectives in the same area so you can complete a few at once, and optimize your movement to limit the amount of backtracking between quests or objectives. Outside of higher-level dungeon crawling, general questing will absolutely net you the highest (and most frequent) XP.
