In Starship Troopers: Terran Command, Hives are the gathering places for Bugs and arachnids. The players will continue to be attacked by swarms of Bugs as long as these exist. Despite being a nuisance, most missions require players to exterminate them all.

What are Hives in Starship Troopers: Terran Command?

A Hive is a hole from which Bugs spawn. Bugs will continuously spawn from these holes in the ground until the player sends his troops to close the entrances.

What’s the difference between Hives and Tunnels in Starship Troopers: Terran Command?

Bugs come out of Hives in waves to attack your base. Tunnels are holes in the ground that spawn Bugs as well, but they do not attack bases. A Tunnel is connected to a Hive, which must be active to remain active. Any Tunnel connected to a Hive is subject to becoming disabled if that Hive is cleared.

How to find Hives in Starship Troopers: Terran Command

On your minimap, Hives will be marked with a diamond inside a number. A closed Hive is gray on the minimap, while an active Hive is red. When you approach a Hive, it will look like a cave and have many Bug icons above it.

How to destroy a Hive in Starship Troopers: Terran Command

You can send units in no matter how full or empty a Hive is. There is only one downside to this: You may not be able to clear out a Hive if there are too many Bugs inside, and even an almost empty Hive will kill some of your troops, so fuller Hives will cause a lot more damage.

Hover your curse over the Hive and click on the number of units you wish to send in. You will see your Army Strength and Hive Strength displayed on the screen. The strength of your army increases with the number of units you send in, and the strength of the Hive decreases as you clear out the Bugs.

You can clear out a Hive by sending a unit into it. You can’t command the units in a Hive—they’re on their own. After going inside tactically, that unit will either return after destroying the entrance or die. As soon as you destroy a Hive, all the Tunnels connected to it will also be destroyed.

What do Bug icons mean in Hives in Starship Troopers: Terran Command?

The Bug icon indicates how many swarms the Bugs can send out at a time. These are depleted by killing waves of Bugs. As soon as a Bug icon turns gray, a red bar will appear over the Hive or Tunnel, slowly filling up until a new Bug icon appears, and it can send out Bugs to attack the player.

Over time, a Hive or Tunnel will regain its strength. Make sure to eliminate any Hives that have depleted their Bug icons.

How to know when a Hive is almost empty in Starship Troopers: Terran Command

When a Hive or Tunnel runs out of Bug icons, it is almost empty. These icons represent how many Bug waves a Hive or Tunnel can send out, so that’s how many Bugs are inside. The Hive or Tunnel is almost empty when all of them are gray.

Can you clear out a Hive without reducing its strength to zero in Starship Troopers: Terran Command?

It is possible to directly go into the Hive or Tunnel with full Bug icons. This is not recommended, as your units will surely die. It is always worth lowering the strength of a Hive or Tunnel as much as possible before entering.

At what strength point should I enter a Hive in Starship Troopers: Terran Command?

A Hive that has lost all its Bug icons should be cleared out. Strength points are usually under one at this point, and they will be at their weakest strength.

All Hive Alerts in Starship Troopers: Terran Command

  • Hive Growth Detected – The strength of every Hive and Tunnel on the map has increased. Each Hive and Tunnel will receive an additional Bug icon, so they can send out more Bugs to attack the player.
  • Infestation – An empty or clear Hive has become infested, which means the Hive could become active again. This is not a guarantee that the Hive will become active.
