With Version 2.6 coming to an end, players have been anticipating the Genshin Impact livestream that would officially introduce Version 2.7, which was originally slated to launch on May 11, 2022. Instead, HoYoverse took to social media to make a grim announcement: Version 2.7 will be delayed. No news has been relayed as to when the livestream and corresponding update will come.

Leaks about the possible delay have been circulating for weeks due to the stressful COVID-19 situation in Shanghai, where HoYoverse’s headquarters are located. User u/chesterfeng0504 took to r/Genshin_Impact to share a post made by HoYoverse in Bilibili, a Chinese social media platform. According to the post, the company has been actively distributing COVID-19 donations to neighborhood communities and childrens’ hospitals.

While the developer hasn’t made an official statement about the cause of the Genshin Impact delay, it can be presumed that the strict lockdowns in the city placed a dent in their ability to roll out content on time.

According to Twitter leaker @lumie_lumie, the delay may last 3 weeks, the duration of a full banner run. And based on information from early leakers, the three-week period could host rerun banners for Arataki Itto and Xiao, while Version 2.7 may be shortened to only accommodate Yelan’s solo banner. However, HoYoverse has yet to confirm the new content plan and timeline—so it’s best to take this information with a grain of salt.

On the bright side, amid the lockdowns, the Genshin Impact team rolled out a new web event to keep players busy until May 5, 2022.
