If you’re one of the lucky ones who already have your hands on a Steam Deck, you might be disappointed to find that the console still doesn’t natively support Genshin Impact. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still play Genshin! There are just a few steps you’ll need to take first in order to get Genshin Impact up and running on your Deck.

Install Windows 10 on Steam Deck

The Steam Deck comes with SteamOS as the core operating system, and in order to play Genshin you need Windows. Unfortunately, you can’t dual boot Windows on the Steam Deck so you’ll need to first overwrite the SteamOS system.

  • Step One: Download Windows 10 onto a USB Type-C flash drive. Then plug the USB into your Deck. If you don’t have a Type-C USB, you’ll need a USB to type-C adapter.
  • Step Two: Press and hold the Volume Down and Power buttons at the same time. This will open up the boot menu. Using your D-Pad, move down until you highlight your USB and then select the USB.
  • Step Three: Reboot and install Windows. The installation will appear in portrait mode. The easiest way to move through the Windows installation and setup process is by hooking up a keyboard and mouse to your Deck, though you will want to disconnect them after this step.
  • Step Four: Change the screen orientation. By default, your Steam Deck should be in portrait mode. Go to Display Orientation (found in display system settings) and choose landscape.
  • Step Five: Download Genshin Impact launcher by using your preferred web prowser. Install the game and download the Genshin Impact files.
  • Step Six: Launch Genshin Impact! The game can be launched from the desktop and can be played through the controls on the Steam Deck.
