Lush caves are an underground biome in Minecraft filled with new blocks and material to scavenge while mining. Players can expect to find moss block, moss carpet, hanging roots, tall grass, and more in this temperate biome that is part of the Caves and Cliffs Update. But, lush caves are not available in 1.17, the first of two major Caves and Cliffs updates. Rather, players must wait for the 1.18 update, set to release in late 2021. When lush caves do release, this is how to find the biome.
While aboveground, players can look for Azalea trees, which always grow above a lush cave. Azalea trees are recognizable by the pink flowers that grow all over the leaves. Attached to the bottom of the Azalea tree are roots, which grow down as rooted dirt to the lush cave. Toward the end of the roots are hanging roots, which should signify that the player is about to enter the lush cave.

When the player has found an Azalea tree above ground, they should mine below the tree until reaching the lush cave. These lush caves are teeming with life and can be mined for lots of material. Here are all of the blocks that players can expect to see and/or collect:
- Moss Block
- Moss Carpet
- Glow Berries
- Tall Grass
- Small Dripleaf
- Big Dripleaf
- Flowering Azalea
- Cave Vines
- Spore Blossom
- Rooted Dirt
- Hanging Roots
When will Lush Caves become available?
The first Caves and Cliffs update (1.17) released on June 8, 2021, but lush caves were not made accessible. Players will have to wait for the second update (1.18), which is expected to release later in 2021, as noted by gameplay developer Alexander Sandor in the Caves & Cliffs Special: Looking Forward video.
